Third Annual Kicking Butts on Film (... and Radio!)

Getting Started

Step 1 – Let us know you plan to enter – We need to know how much popcorn to pop!
If you plan to enter, drop us an email to let us know in advance and you will be entered in a raffle to win free Kick Butts Day Gear. All emails received prior to January 8th will be entered in the raffle. Please pre-register by sending an email to kbdinfo@tobaccofreekids.org .

Step 2 — Pick a theme — We are giving you four, but please only pick one! All entries should be based around one of the following themes:

Send a message to Big Tobacco. The tobacco industry addicts more than 1,000 youth every day. The industry targets youth by the magazines we read, the movies we watch, even the stores where we shop. Let tobacco companies know they can’t target you.
What’s in a cigarette? There are over 4000 chemicals in a single puff of cigarette smoke, and 69 of them are known carcinogens (that means they cause cancer). Many of these chemicals can be found in everyday household products like ammonia. It is definitely time to expose the truth behind these ingredients.
How Does the Tobacco Industry See You? Tobacco companies continue to advertise in stores near schools and playgrounds. Show the tobacco industry that you are not just a “replacement customer”.
It Starts with Me. It only takes one person to stand up, step away from the crowd, and speak out against tobacco. How would you show yourself taking a stand against tobacco?

Step 3 — Start planning - Plan first and then make magic!

Read all contest requirements and technical guidelines carefully.
Brainstorm your PSA as an individual or with a group and start researching your facts and figures.
Prepare and edit your 30:second PSA.

Step 4 – Send in your entry – We are going old school snail mail for this one, so plan accordingly!

Mail all entries for arrival by 5:00 p.m. Eastern by Friday, Jan. 29, 2010. Send them to this address:

All entries must include:
- Two copies of your PSA on two separate CDs or DVDs with your name and PSA title clearly marked. Television PSAs must be in .mov, .avi, .wmv, or .mph format and radio PSAs must be in .wav or .mp3.
- Completed entry form and consent forms for all participants
