Staying Involved This Summer
You don’t need to wait until next March to STAND OUT, SPEAK UP, and SEIZE CONTROL against Big Tobacco. Take advantage of your extra free time this summer to organize an outdoor activity that will make a huge difference in our fight to expose Big Tobacco’s lies and manipulations. It’s time to spread the word and get people excited about making a change!
Here are a couple of ideas:
-
Help keep your friends and relatives stay safe this summer by fighting to pass a tobacco-free parks and playground ordinance in your city. It is one of the most significant steps you can take to protect your entire community.
-
Take action to ban tobacco use in movies and de-glamorize the use of tobacco in your community with our Tobacco & Hollywood activities.
Both of these are great ways to keep up your activism in the summer months, and they will help you connect with people in your community who can participate in events in the future!
You can find instructions for these activities (and much more!) in our Kick Butts This Summer packet.

I believe that it is extremely important to continue advocacy efforts all year round because even though we're on summer break, tobacco companies aren't. They're always looking for new ways to market to our youth and they know summer is a time when a lot of groups don't do much because they want to enjoy the free time they have before school in the fall.
I think one of the best ways to stay involved during the summer is by staying connected, whether it be through Facebook or MySpace or blog sites. If your group is geographically spread out then staying connected allows you to better express your ideas and talk about events you want to have without having to be so close to do it.
