2015 Youth Advocates of the Year Awards

Posted by Erica Olmstead on 4 Dec 2014

Every year, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids holds a nationwide competition to identify and honor young people who have taken the lead in fighting tobacco and making a difference in their communities and states.

On May 14, 2015, we will honor a National winner, a Group winner and four Regional winners (East, South, Central and West). The awards motivate and inspire youth across the country to continue their involvement and launch the winners onto the national stage as role models and accomplished advocates.

The National winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship and a $500 grant. The other individual winners will receive a $2,500 scholarship and $500 grant, and the group winners will receive a $2,500 grant to continue their tobacco control work.

Applications are now open

All applications must be submitted by Jan. 31, 2015.

In their year-long role, Youth Advocate of the Year Award winners serve as spokespersons for tobacco control and work closely with TFK staff on policy priorities at the local, state and national levels. Youth Advocates of the Year (YAYAs) serve as ambassadors for youth within tobacco and are given ongoing technical assistance in their own advocacy work as well as opportunities to train and empower other youth advocates around the country.

The winner of the national Youth Advocate of the Year Award also serves on TFK’s Board of Directors for one year.

Past award winners have appeared in People Magazine and on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” participated in White House events, spoke at press conferences, met with Members of Congress and were interviewed by national media.
