Taking Down Tobacco, our new FREE online training program, is now live!

Taking Down Tobacco is a comprehensive youth advocacy training program created by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids in partnership with the CVS Health Foundation. This initiative educates and engages youth through online and in-person trainings. It provides introductory training for youth new to the fight against tobacco and advanced training to help young leaders take their advocacy to the next level.

Geared toward middle and high-school students, Taking Down Tobacco empowers youth to create change in their schools, communities and states and help achieve the first tobacco-free generation.

Visit and create an account. If you already have a Kicks Butts Day account, you can login with those same credentials. If you don’t have a Kick Butts Day account, you’ll be prompted to create an account when you visit the site for the first time.

Once you have created an account, you’ll be able to immediately access the introductory course, Taking Down Tobacco 101.

In this introductory training, advocates will learn the basics about tobacco, including the dangers of cigarette smoking and other tobacco use, the many types of tobacco products and how they are marketed, and the proven solutions that can win the fight against tobacco. Completion of this course is necessary to continue on to other courses.

Upon completion of the introductory course, youth leaders and adult allies can learn the skills to train other youth advocates and deliver the Taking Down Tobacco 101 course in their own communities. This course includes tips on engaging and inspiring your audience and customizing the training for your community. Upon completion, certified trainers will have access to a facilitator’s guide and additional resources.

The Core 4 are our advanced advocacy trainings for users who have completed Taking Down Tobacco 101. While designed for youth, the Core 4 trainings are focused on developing effective messages for advocacy campaigns, working with the media, communicating with community leaders and elected officials, and creating impactful advocacy events useful to all. Discussion guides will be available to download for adult allies to implement the course content into local work.

We’re so excited to launch this new program and can’t wait to see how it influences youth engagement in the fight against tobacco. Visit to get started!
